New Branding for a Lino Printmaking and Tattoo Studio
Sour Times is a studio belonging to lino printmaker and tattoo artist Lanabagu.
Her work is whimsical and cheeky, even a bit twisted at times. The name is a tongue-in-cheek nod to how it feels getting a tattoo; it's also the name of a Portishead song one of her favourite bands.
There's a mark that appears in much of Lanabagu's work, she calls it the "Weatherman Face". It's translatable and recognisable making it a strong motif. Using it was a no-brainer when it came to making the logo.
The logo has purposeful imperfections to honour the nature of printmaking and tattooing. Enough to be noticeable but subtle so the branding could remain as dynamic as possible. Bright, bold colours complement the whimsy and tie the brand to the physical studio space, which has a pink, yellow, and green theme throughout.
